Senior Data Analyst, Payment Ops job description

A Sr. Data Analyst to be the subject matter expert of all things Payments Operations Analytics. AppFolio's payment platform moves billions of dollars across millions of residents, property managers, vendors, and owners as part of a major growth engine for AppFolio. This role will support the Payments Operations teams & leadership through enterprise-level Analytics; building and maintaining data assets and dashboards, while thoughtfully performing data analysis using SQL, Python, and/or R to help optimize and analyze our Payments business.

Your impact

Be the Subject Matter Expert for Payments Ops analytics

  • Payments Expertise: Learn everything about the Payments business and data
  • Own Data Accuracy: Ensure data precision for all reports, analyses, and insights
  • Stay Aligned and informed: Join payments ops and product meetings to align with initiatives and represent Analytics
  • Blend Context with Data: Infuse Payments’ history and business context with data-driven analyses
  • Collaborate for Success: Work with Operations and Business leaders to support the key work done to run our Payments business

Build data products that monitor business and product performance and provide insights to drive growth

  • Create & maintain DBT models to combine and filter data from multiple sources
  • Create & maintain the payments operations dashboards that track transaction and usage data
  • Ideate, design, and build new ways of tracking Payments performance
  • Partner with Payments Ops to build and maintain margin analyses and forecasting

Deliver actionable insights to drive impactful business decisions

  • Segment and classify our user base through user behavior and cohort analyses
  • Define and maintain meaningful metric systems to measure user performance
  • Perform statistical analyses of our payments business, at varying altitudes
  • Deliver results of analyses in a thoughtful/useful way, that provides clarity and empowers decision-making for technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Business acumen – understands key challenges facing our business and partners with key stakeholders to find creative ways to apply data science to solve them; connects dots between data & business outcomes
  • Owner Mindset - Takes pride in the quality and impact of their work and drives projects forward with minimal guidance
  • Data Analytics skills – Adept at cleaning, transforming, and shaping data
  • Attention to detail – appropriately checks all work for errors and does not let important details slip when it comes to data and its accuracy
  • Creative problem solving - able to use creativity and curiosity as tools to pick apart any problem, producing a solution that is relevant and realistic
  • Efficiency – Look for ways to improve processes to maximize efficiency and remove redundancy
  • Communication / Executive Presence: Has authentic communication skills including transparency and clarity in both formal and informal settings. Applies exceptional presentation skills to distill complex information into simple concepts & compelling stories

Must have

  • Strong mathematics, statistics, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • 4- 6 years of work experience in a Data Analytics role.
  • Data Analysis: Strong grasp of statistical and analytical techniques to uncover patterns and trends in data - demonstrating ability to pair methodology with problem space
  • Data Visualization: Tableau preferred, (Looker, PowerBI)
  • Data Transformation: SQL and Python
  • Experience in Payments industry - or similar transactional consumer facing business
  • Familiarity with and ability to quickly learn DBT

Nice to have

  • Advanced Experience with DBT
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce
  • Experience in B2B SaaS
  • Experience creating and presenting financial forecasts to finance & business leaders

What we offer at AppFolio

The base salary/hourly wage that we reasonably expect to pay for this role is: $100,000 - 150,000

The actual base salary/hourly wage for this role will be determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to: the candidate’s skills, education, experience, etc.

Please note that base pay is one important aspect of a compelling Total Rewards package. The base pay range indicated here does not include any additional benefits or bonuses/commissions that you may be eligible for based on your role and/or employment type.
