Senior Data Analyst, GeoSpatial job description

The Underwriting Innovation Team is looking for promising new Senior Geospatial Data Analyst to help accelerate our digital transformation. We want diverse thinkers who know how to bring innovation to life by facilitating the design and development of simple, intuitive, and user-centered software solutions. You’ll help senior department leadership drive the transformation of a traditionally paper-based business by re-imagining underwriting as a digital experience, thinking through both the underwriter’s and customer’s lenses.

You will use Geographic Information System techniques to provide a better understanding of certain variables in a given geographic location. Research, acquire, analyze and maintain geographic information systems (GIS) datasets and relevant public records from responsible governmental agencies to enable processing of statutory and non-statutory disclosures. Extracts data from GIS software and uses varying analysis methods to arrive at results. Recommends strategies in response to GIS analysis. Coordinates special projects assigned by the GIS Manager

  • Candidate will need to be local to Southern California and will get to work on-site in First American's Corporate HQ in Santa Ana, CA 2-3 days a week.

What You'll Do:

  • Perform and document GIS needs assessments for special projects and technical tasks
  • Coordinate acquisition of public records needed for product development or enhancement
  • Design, document and recommend workflow and QA\QC process for creating and maintaining spatial data
  • Provide more advanced level support for complex tasks
  • Design, develop and document more complex scripts and customize GIS software to support workflow
  • Create metadata and assist with technical aspects of geospatial data
  • Assist Supervisor with assignment of team roles and responsibilities
  • Provide internal and external customer support for sales and technical issues
  • Identify and perform complex automation processes

What You'll Bring:

  • Must be proficient in a number of computer applications, but must specifically possess GIS software skills; knowledge of ESRI products, MapInfo, and MS Office is preferred
  • Strong background in GIS software required; working understanding or scripting languages preferred (e.g. VBA, Python, VB script, JavaScript)
  • Must be a geospatial subject matter expert possessing a knowledge of various high-level GIS concepts and software capabilities
  • Strong analytical and decision making skills
  • Knowledge of standard QA\QC processes and ability to provide QA\QC leadership
  • Proficient in geospatial database design, development and use
  • Domain-specific geospatial knowledge is a plus
  • Advanced database skills, including SQL
  • High School Diploma / GED required
  • BS/BA in Geography, Planning, related field or GIS Certification is preferred; other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted
  • Minimum 5 years professional experience with significant degree of technical knowledge

Salary Range: $69,900 - $124,230 Annually

This hiring range is a reasonable estimate of the base pay range for this position at the time of posting. Pay is based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements and geographic location.
