Senior Data Analyst job description

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Global Analyst to support affiliate and influencer channel insights that help drive client’s customer acquisition and engagement. This role will oversee client reporting and forecasting and is responsible for strategic analysis that identifies trends to support Business Development Managers’ partner strategy and execution. The Sr. Analyst will work closely with the Global Marketing, Affiliate and Influencer Leads to ensure alignment with overall business objectives. This role is for someone who is an excellent communicator, highly analytical, has strong attention to detail, is an excellent problem solver and can work independently.

The ideal candidate is passionate about data manipulation and story-telling, has the ability to identify outliers to support account team with strategy development, enjoys global scopes and complex data needs, and is comfortable managing multi-million-dollar budgets.

This position must be based in the US (ideally PST) and encompasses a comprehensive analysis lifecycle, covering requirement gathering, activity execution, and design planning. Data analysts are tasked with enhancing analytical and reporting functions, as well as supervising performance and quality assurance processes to pinpoint areas for enhancement.

Data Analyst Roles And Responsibilities

Client Reporting and Forecasting

  • Advanced Client Reporting Ownership: Effectively uses reporting tools, compiling standard & customized weekly, monthly, and quarterly client performance reports. Understands and maximizes network, AP tools, and client internal reporting (when applicable), with no coaching needed, to proactively enhance account management and performance; advanced user of excel, Power BI, and experience with MMM/MTA reporting suites, summarizing high level channel KPI’s and partner insights based on the data.
  • Prioritizes Client Data Needs Effectively: Manages and prioritizes incoming ad-hoc reporting requests with little to no guidance.
  • Accurate Data & Analysis: Uses data strategically and appropriately and ensures team does as well - all analysis or data shared to clients from team is consistently accurate and precise
  • Account Forecasting: Consistently creates reporting models/projections for client and coaches others to do so as needed; can create an ROI model to support proposals and recommendations. Proactively tracks and monitors budget, making recommendations on when levers to increase or pull back on spend.
  • Collaboration: Work cross-team (finance, BI, global performance marketing, tech ops) to understand data needs and help make informed decisions based on data insights.

Strategic Analysis

  • Efficiency Analysis: Dives into program management tools and tasks to “go deeper” into the impact and uncover opportunities for program growth and efficiencies. Including, but not limited to, analysis of partner statuses in Partner CRM.
  • Extracting Learnings & Recommendations from Raw Data: Includes high-level KPI’s and learnings based on the data, including the ROI on the campaign, with no guidance needed
  • Incrementality: Pulls together incrementality analysis of program and partners as needed, with some guidance needed from manager
  • Postmortems & Paid Placement Analysis: Supports Client Services team with compilation of postmortem recaps that include meaningful data recap, data insights, and visuals to aid in telling the story back to the client. Proactively analyzes data as soon as placements and campaigns have completed, rolling up performance insights to account team and client; goes beyond the status quo to curate a meaningful story, robust insights, and key trends.
  • Partner Health: helps protect and monitor health metrics, deeply understanding fraud and quality reporting to create dashboards that support proactive identification of channel risks and deeper understanding of trends around fraud flags and cost risks.

Client Service and communication

  • Client Communication: Clearly communicates and summarizes program and campaign performance, along with data learnings on client calls.
  • Written Communication: Emails and reports that recap performance are concise and factual based on data.
  • Effective Data-Driven Dialog: Confidently presents data findings to client and account teams in a formal setting or presentation
  • Affiliate Knowledge: Displays clear understanding of the affiliate landscape, how different brands perform within this space, and client-specific brand knowledge; is able to tie this knowledge in with client data to speak to performance story
  • Problem Solving: Works on problems of moderate scope and tackles routine challenges, using further analysis of situations or data as required at 95% ownership; this can include down-tracking, data discrepancies, and cross-analyzing client internal data to affiliate platform data to identify challenges within the data

Storytelling, Trends and Insights

  • Relatable Industry Trends: Incorporates industry insights and benchmarks within reporting that are relevant to the client and support the story the data is telling. Trends & benchmarks inclusive of competitor trends, vertical trends, historical program trends, and larger industry trends.
  • Data Flags & Considerations: Pinpoints and proactively flags any trends within the data that might impact program performance; is able to routinely find the root cause of a reporting challenge and offer solutions.
  • Meaningful Data Visuals: Leverages visuals to support the story the data is telling.
  • Understands the Why: Knows when more information is needed; asks effective questions in appropriate forum, client call, or internal discussion. Able to consistently draw out root causes and relevant back story.
  • Data Analysis: Consistently draws relevant and accurate conclusions using data to identify trends (and the why behind those trends), analyze campaigns, and provide client recommendations to reach or exceed goals. Can coach others to do so as well.

This Data Analyst will play a crucial role in various aspects:

  • Strategic Decision-Making:provide the groundwork for strategic decision-making by uncovering trends and insights that can guide business strategies and improve outcomes.
  • Improving Efficiency:By identifying areas of inefficiency within operations, this role will help streamline processes, reduce costs, and increase productivity.
  • Enhancing Customer Experiences:understand customer behaviors and preferences, leading to improved products and services (bounty reward incentives, attribution model during promotional periods vs. non-promo periods).
  • Risk and Fraud Management: help identify potential risks and challenges, and devise strategies to mitigate these risks. This role will also help monitor and integrate and build out fraud reporting visibility, dashboards and visualization.

Skills And Qualifications

  • Possess a solid foundation in statistics and practical experience with statistical software (such as Excel, SPSS, SAS) and mastery in data analysis languages including SQL, Python, and R.
  • Exhibit exceptional analytical abilities to compile, structure, examine, and present substantial data sets with precision and thoroughness.
  • Capable of critically evaluating data to derive meaningful, actionable insights.
  • Demonstrate superior communication and presentation capabilities, adept at simplifying complex data insights for audiences without a technical background.
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, or a comparable discipline is required, with prior experience in data analysis or a related field being advantageous.
  • Experience delivering results for large, cross-functional initiatives while managing multiple competing priorities.
  • Experience in the entertainment, media and/or subscription businesses.
  • Affiliate and/or Influencer marketing experience
