Our team is unique because we value transparency and direct ownership of responsibilities—meaning, you’ll always have our trust to help contribute to our overall goals and success as a department and organization.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Marketing, Sales & Success, and Engineering, to gather requirements and deliver data-driven insights and recommendations.
  • Contribute to creating and maintaining data sources by conducting detailed data gathering and analysis and ensuring data quality and integrity.
  • Conduct open-ended exploratory data analysis to uncover actionable insights, validate hypotheses, and significantly guide the prioritization of business initiatives.
  • Provide peer review and mentorship of colleagues and their work to maintain a high standard of quality, accuracy, and knowledge across the team.
Senior Data Analyst job requirements

If you excel at anticipating and keenly understanding the needs of your stakeholders, delivering tailored, impactful solutions, transforming complex data into meaningful insights, and have strong expertise in SQL and data visualization, we’d love to talk to you! This role is ideal for someone who thrives in environments that require critical thinking and proactive problem-solving, enjoys collaborating across teams, has a knack for simplifying complex concepts, and is eager to take ownership in driving impactful data-driven decisions within a dynamic and evolving business landscape.

The minimum qualifications for this role include:

  • 8+ years of experience in data analytics, which may include formal education.
  • 3+ years of demonstrated experience developing and validating SQL queries to support analyses, reporting, and dashboards, with the ability to derive insights and craft strategies or narratives from large and complex data sets.
  • 2+ years of applied experience in data visualization software such as Tableau, Looker, PowerBI, or another data visualization tool, with the ability to create compelling narratives and presentations that convey complex data insights to a non-technical audience.
  • Experience collaborating closely with data engineering teams, ensuring seamless data integration, pipeline development, and maintaining data quality for analytical purposes.
  • Experience partnering directly with stakeholders to define requirements, validate results, and present findings/deliverables.

Preferred qualifications for this role include:

  • Experience in the SaaS industry or working with subscription revenue business models.
  • Knowledge of version control systems, such as GitHub, for managing and collaborating on data projects.
  • Experience with Python for programmatic data analysis.
  • Background in organizations that leverage DBT for data modeling.

How You’ll Grow

Within 1 month, you’ll plant your roots, including:

  • Experience Sprout’s in-depth onboarding, covering everything from our company mission and values, hearing directly from executives and founders, to deep training on our products and the value that Sprout delivers to our customers.
  • Make a plan with your manager to set initial priorities, align on expectations for your role, plant goalposts for your career, and learn about Sprout’s approach to analytics.
  • Begin developing familiarity with our business, applications, data, and our company’s key metrics.
  • Write SQL queries to fetch data from our Redshift database.
  • Analyze data using Tableau, Hex, or Google Sheets to create reports and analyses for business and product stakeholders.
  • Document your work -- What question(s) was it trying to answer? What time range did it look at? What assumptions were made?
  • Meet key stakeholders and learn about how the Business Analytics team supports them.
  • Participate in team meetings and join a Business Analytics Office Hours session.

Within 3 months, you’ll start hitting your stride by:

  • Complete any necessary training on Tableau and utilize it to build and maintain dashboards to drive awareness and understanding of key business and product metrics.
  • Update an existing Tableau Published Data Source or create a new Published Data Source in partnership with another analyst.
  • Analyze a large click-stream data set to understand our customers or their product utilization.
  • Become familiar with our GitHub repositories and code deployment process, then submit a few changes to our code base.
  • Support various teams with ad-hoc analyses that transform raw data into meaningful and impactful insights.
  • Investigate the questions our business partners are asking, suggest appropriate metrics, and develop a plan to analyze the data.
  • Identify data issues and drive improvements in data hygiene.
  • Participate in our team’s quarterly roadmap planning and project scoping sessions.
  • Build connections with members from other teams through active networking and community-building.

Within 6 months, you’ll be making a clear impact through:

  • Design, implement, and maintain dashboards that serve as on-demand assets for stakeholders, ensuring they are accurate, timely, and actionable.
  • Drive operational excellence by leveraging monitoring, alerting, and automation to ensure swift responses to performance changes and capitalize on emerging opportunities.
  • Partner with other Analysts, Analytics Engineers, and/or Data Engineers to augment or enhance an existing ETL process that supports our data warehouse.
  • Partner with Sales and Success teams to define goals and identify actionable metrics, understand product performance and engrain those metrics into teams’ day-to-day work.
  • Work closely with our Data Engineering team to author and develop core data sets to empower operational and exploratory analyses.
  • Develop and execute a project plan to create a new dashboard for stakeholders.
  • Have your first performance conversation with your manager, where you’ll discuss your accomplishments in your role and work together to build goals for your professional growth.
  • Present your analyses and insights to all company levels clearly and concisely.

Within 12 months, you’ll make this role your own by:

  • Use data to inform and influence team roadmaps and inform business decisions.
  • Have improved your technical skills, especially with SQL, Tableau, Hex, and GitHub.
  • Have the ability to take ambiguous data questions, translate them into a clear analytical plan, and produce concise summary output that includes recommendations based upon core findings.
  • Continually evaluate and refine your technical toolkit: teach what you learn to the team.
  • Surprise us! Use your unique ideas and abilities to change your team in beneficial ways that we haven’t even considered yet.

Of course, what is outlined above is the ideal timeline, but things may shift based on business needs, and other projects and tasks could be added at the discretion of your manager.
