Senior Data Analyst job description

The Senior Data Analyst position will sit within the Reinsurance Business Intelligence group and play a pivotal role in guiding the group in providing data insights to support strategic projects and decision-making. This individual will be responsible for managing and enhancing our reinsurance reporting processes, developing insightful data analytics, and creating interactive dashboards using Power BI. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in reinsurance, data analytics, and process improvement, with a proven ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.

Key Responsibilities:

Reinsurance Reporting:

Manage and drive the reinsurance reporting process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Upgrade and increase flexibility of reinsurance renewal and audit data calls.
Develop and maintain comprehensive reinsurance reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Collaborate with reinsurance, finance, and actuarial teams to gather and analyze data for reporting purposes.
Data Analytics:

Perform detailed data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights that support business decision-making.
Utilize advanced analytical techniques to interpret complex data sets and provide actionable recommendations.
Develop predictive models and risk assessments to support reinsurance strategies.
Process Improvements:

Identify opportunities for process improvements within the reinsurance reporting and data analytics functions.
Implement best practices and streamline workflows to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Lead initiatives to automate manual processes and reduce operational risks.
Dashboard Creation:

Design and develop interactive dashboards using Power BI to visualize key metrics and performance indicators.
Ensure dashboards are user-friendly, visually appealing, and provide real-time insights to stakeholders.
Continuously enhance and update dashboards based on user feedback and evolving business needs.
Power BI Expertise:

Serve as the subject matter expert for Power BI, providing guidance and support to team members.
Develop and maintain Power BI reports, datasets, and data models.
Train and mentor team members on Power BI best practices and advanced functionalities.
Project Leadership:

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify business needs and translate them into data-driven deliverables and solutions.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business goals.
Assist in the development of business requirements documentation and user acceptance test (UAT) execution.
Collaborate with IT and data engineering teams to optimize data infrastructure, streamline data workflows, and develop new data pipelines where applicable.

Senior Data Analyst job requirements

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
3-5 years of experience in reinsurance reporting, data analytics, or a similar role within the insurance industry.
Minimum of 4 years of experience in data analytics, with experience leading end-to-end projects.
Proficiency in Power BI, including data modeling.
Strong proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages such as SQL, Python, R, etc.
Extensive experience with data visualization and data presentation using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker, etc.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.
Experience with SQL, Excel, and other data analysis tools.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information to non-technical stakeholders.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
Proven track record of driving process improvements and implementing best practices.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Experience in the insurance industry, with a solid understanding of insurance products, underwriting, claims, and risk management.
Ability to translate business needs and challenges into technical requirements to work with relevant data engineering and software engineering teams on developing deliverables which make tangible business impact.
Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CPCU, ARe, CFA).
Experience with other data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI preferred, Tableau, Qlik).
Knowledge of reinsurance treaties and regulatory requirements.
