Description:

This position is responsible for overseeing the data and reporting needs of the University of Illinois Chicago's (UIC) College of Education. The Associate Director of Data Analytics will develop and implement a strategic vision regarding institutional data collection, analysis, and communication. By conducting institutional research studies, the Associate Director of Data Analytics will inform the development of goals and initiatives to ensure the College of Education is responsive to the needs of students, faculty, alumni, and other invested parties. The Associate Director of Data Analytics will manage the gathering, entering, and analyzing data, preparing reports, and assist with the maintenance of internal dashboards to improve and data access for college leadership. The Associate Director of Data Analytics will supervise the development of new technologies and data management systems in support of the research, reporting, and administrative operations of the College of Education.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Research and the Director of Council on Teacher Education to develop, implement and manage a strategic plan for effective institutional data use.
  • Supervise the development of institutional data reports derived from university data warehouses and relevant for internal and external parties.
  • Guide College leaders on strategic decision-making by supporting use of institutional data and research.
  • Oversee the analysis of student data at multiple levels (college, department, major), summary of findings though written narratives and meaningful visual displays, and ensure the accurate reporting of findings in ways appropriate to the various stakeholder groups.
  • Supervise the creation and maintenance of dashboards that support student data access, security, efficiency, and accessibility.
  • Manage the creation of ad hoc and regular reports to support internal decision-making across a variety of institutional data areas related to students, faculty, staff, research teams, alumni, among others.
  • Management the deployment and implementation of data collection methods, as needed and the design evaluation tools, questionnaires, and interviews
  • Supervise the collection of comparative information from peer institutions and conduct analyses along with institutional data.
  • Oversee the gathering of statistical data from various sources to include in grant proposals and/or target programming efforts.
  • Supervise the preparation of state and federal required reports and assist with any external and/or internal audit requests.
  • Manage the development of web/integration services to improve functionality, accessibility, data sharing and visualization in and/or among the various data, communications, and applications systems.
  • Develop a technical vision informed by deep understanding of user and organizational needs and other factors including usability, performance, security, data availability and quality.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Associate Director of Data Analytics job requirements

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelor's degree in computer science, operations research, or other related fields with at least 12 semester hours in computer science and/or mathematical modeling

OR

Experience and/or training that provided knowledge, skills, and abilities comparable to those normally gained in one of the Bachelor's degree programs listed above1

  1. One (1) year (12 months) of experience in operations research and/or mathematical modeling

  2. A graduate degree in computer science, math, social sciences, educational research, higher education, or another discipline that involves research methodology and statistical analysis.

  3. Strong analytical background working with relational databases and demonstrated ability to design and coordinate large-scale projects and complex research studies, write reports, and convey complex research findings to a variety of audiences.

  1. Three years of professional data analytics experience in higher education.

  2. Advanced statistical knowledge of R/SPSS/SAS, Tableau, Excel, PowerPoint.

  3. Experienced in Business Objects, query analyzers, database management, and survey design.
