Essential Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Have a thorough understanding of PRH’s data sources and how to leverage internal tools and systems to collect and analyze data. Follow data governance best practices and maintain the integrity of company data.
  • Utilize Zeitgeist data tools to analyze industry data and identify title opportunities in the practical nonfiction space that are a good fit for Zeitgeist’s data-informed publishing program.
  • Understand our editorial process and how data can be used to support editorial decisions.
  • Translate data findings into actionable insights for colleagues across Zeitgeist. Write reports and provide feedback as needed to help answer questions related to content, design, production, marketing and sales.
  • Take ownership of day-to-day data tasks to ensure that downstream data insight needs are met throughout the title development process.
  • Work with a mindset of continuous development and optimization of data processes to increase efficiency.
  • Support the Director, Data Analytics with data analytics needs as required

Soft Skills Required:

  • Excitement about Zeitgeist’s data-informed approach to publishing.
  • Willingness to experiment with new technologies.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to take initiative and work with a high level of independence.
  • Proactive approach to completing outstanding tasks.
  • Enthusiasm about learning new skills as needed.
  • A positive can-do attitude; ability to pivot and adapt as needed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable working with teams remotely.

Technical Skills Required:

  • Proficiency in SQL and Python.
  • Familiarity with MS PowerBI or a similar data reporting tool preferred.
  • Familiarity with command line tools and Git version control preferred.
  • MS Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.) and familiarity with other MS Office applications.
  • Familiarity with key machine learning and natural language processing concepts.

Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, or another relevant field.
  • Strong mathematical and statistical background.
  • Hands-on experience with data analysis and machine learning projects.
  • Experience translating data findings into actionable business insights.
  • Experience in publishing, or the media industry more broadly, is a plus.
What we offer at Penguin Random House

The salary range for this position is $65,000-$75,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.

Penguin Random House job postings include a good faith compensation range for each open position. The salary range listed is specific to each particular open position and takes into account various factors including the specifics of the individual role, and candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
