Job Description & Responsibilities
This position is negotiable anywhere The Nature Conservancy is authorized to conduct business. Arlington, VA is TNC's headquarters.
The position reports to the Senior Economist in the Global Conservation Campaigns team. The Economic Data Analyst will work closely with TNC’s Policy and Public Funding team and regional external affairs staff, as well as other TNC strategy programs. The Global Conservation Campaigns team is a group of in-house public affairs and campaign professionals, whose staff is based in several locations across the U.S., striving to develop collaborative and inclusive research and strategic campaigns that can be implemented at scale to execute on TNC’s 2030 Goals. The team’s expertise includes strategic planning, feasibility research, economic research and analysis, public opinion polling, message development, fundraising, campaign management and training. Since 1986, GCC has worked with TNC’s US state chapters to implement state- and local-level legislative and ballot initiative campaigns resulting in voter approval of more than $120 billion in public funding for land and water protection and passage policies supporting TNC’s conservation priorities including climate change. GCC also works with the North American Policy and Government Relations team on strategic research, public affairs, and advocacy efforts related to Federal priorities. Globally, GCC’s work has focused on providing training, research, facilitation, and project management services to TNC programs in Africa, Australia, China, Europe, Latin America, and more.

We are tackling climate change, conserving lands, waters and oceans at unprecedented scale, providing food and water sustainably and helping make cities more sustainable. To implement these priorities, we collaborate actively in a non-confrontational manner with public sector agencies, NGOs, academia, business and the finance sector.
The Economic Data Analyst identifies, collects, and manages data to ensure accuracy and inform policy and public funding work across TNC. The Economic Data Analyst will be expected to filter, clean, and combine data from multiple sources support and to collaborate with TNC colleagues to incorporate findings into written reports and proposals. The Economic Data Analyst will be expected to lead data identification and summary work, including managing relations and products with TNC teams, for projects that align with their expertise. In addition, the Economic Data Analyst will help manage critical collaborations with scientists across TNC and at external institutions. They will help develop a vision for a data repository to inform TNC’s policy and finance work and provide input into the creation of a collaborative work plan the broader use of these data by TNC policy and public funding teams.

Requirements
What You'll Bring
- Master’s Degree in economics or related field (including, but not limited to, applied/agricultural economics, statistics, public policy, and natural resource/environmental management) and 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience collecting, manipulating, and cleaning complex tabular socio-economic data.
- Experience identifying, analyzing, and interpreting trends in complex tabular socio-economic data sets.
- Experience preparing reports of findings.
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced proficiency in R (including ggplot2 and shiny packages); strong knowledge of Excel; experience with Tableau or Power BI preferred.
- Experience managing and working with primary/secondary micro- and macro-economic data.
- Ability to translate complex content to key partners, including through the development of clear data graphics, adapting framing and messaging based upon audience needs.
- Experience coordinating projects and working and communicating with people from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds.

SALARY INFORMATION
The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $55,800 - $90,630 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
