Data Analyst job description

The primary responsibility for this role is to manage the data collection process including the manipulation and statistical analysis of multiple data sets, which includes data sets that are both internal and external to the College. This role is responsible for performing statistical analyses and translating the findings into conclusions and recommendations that can be understood by a non-technical audience.

  • Collects/extracts student level data from various data sources, including student and faculty data (OSS), third party vendors, faculty, and staff as well as other sources, using various software and hardware interfaces including, but not limited to, OSS, Banner, and SQL.
  • Merges data from multiple data sets using matching variables to create larger data sets.
  • Develops new data bases and data elements.
  • Conducts quality checks on the completeness and accuracy of data pulled and merged into larger files. Performs statistical analyses on merged data sets using SPSS/PASW software.
  • Presents findings of analysis in non-technical terms that can be understood by a wider audience.
  • Interfaces with IT project management office and IT personnel to ensure creation of institution data warehouse as per specifications and institution needs.
  • Merges campus-level and on-line program course schedules to create master schedule.
  • Attends and participates in technical and other training.
  • Assist with writing of surveys and reports and with presentation of reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, statistics, market research, educational research, or related field
  • Master's Degree Preferred
  • Two (2) plus years working with relational databases required, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Experience with Sales Force.com and Share Point.
  • One (1) year experience with Power BI report development.
  • Strong SQL skills are a prerequisite for this position.
  • Candite must have strong MS Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Must have ability to present complicated information in understandable terms.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, SPSS, Access, relational databases, SQL required.
  • Knowledge of Oracle Student System, Banner or Campus View student data platforms preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience using web-enabled survey platforms such as Insight Express, Survey Monkey preferred.
  • Ability to interact with persons of various levels in an organization.

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $41,419.01 and $75,065.24. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
