Data Analyst job description

The Senior Data Analyst contributes to the Institute’s metric and measurement initiatives by leveraging and conducting reports and investigations on complex data projects related to Sundance Institute artists, audiences, and supporters.

Working closely under the Director, Technology Services, the Senior Data Analyst utilizes statistical, algorithmic, mining, and visualization techniques to discover and identify insights and opportunities for the organization.

This full-time position can be fully remote or based out of our Park City, Utah office with regular opportunities to work from home. This position will also work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, at key points throughout the year. Travel to other offices may be required throughout the year.

Top priorities include but are not limited to…

  • Investigating large amounts of complex raw and processed information to identify patterns, grow our understanding, and improve the effectiveness of fundraising, artist programs, and audience outreach initiatives.
  • Integrating and preparing large, varied datasets; architecting specialized databases, and communicating results.
  • Collaborating closely with programs and operations teams to build reports and presentations on key findings.
  • Clearly communicating and providing results of data analysis to all constituents.
  • Developing projects related to tracking data and analytics and supporting other department tasks as needed.
  • Providing support and comprehensive training to employees within the department and across the Institute on how to build and run reports, dashboards, and other tools.
  • Working with other departments to understand their data and analytics needs and devise solutions to solve for those needs.
  • Hiring and managing employees, including selecting and training employees, providing direction, feedback, mentorship, and support to ensure all understand responsibilities and are effective in their roles while delegating appropriate and meaningful work.
  • Developing effective metrics and measurements collaborating closely with internal stakeholders to meet the needs of their programs.
  • Presenting metric reports and analysis to Leadership as directed.
  • Developing and publishing data gathering surveys.
  • Engaging with internal partners to understand business strategy, questions, and goals.
  • Surveying the overall data landscape, looking for new opportunities in collecting and analyzing data.
  • Working closely with the Digital Engineering team to improve data collection and collaborate on high-level goals.
Data Analyst job requirements

You have the following direct or transferable skill sets:

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • 4 or more years of relevant experience in a business and data analysis role.
  • Highly organized with advanced experience in data analysis and statistics.
  • Critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience as a business intelligence analyst with data mining responsibilities.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of R, SQL, and Python.
  • Experience working with data analysis and data visualizations
  • Ability to design, build, and run self-service reports and dashboards
  • Experience with dashboarding and exact, transform, and load (ETL) tools such as Domo.
  • Ability to think analytically.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Machine learning experience is a bonus.

  • Help improve the effectiveness of our programs by preparing reports with digestible information, and presenting across the organization
  • Serve as an analytical resource for fellow colleagues, supporting others with data analysis as needed to inform strategic decisions.
  • Establish standards, processes and goals that ensure that even tactical work is aligned with company pillars.
