Data Analyst job description

We’re looking for curious and collaborative people to join our growing entrepreneurial team in Minneapolis. The Wiley Assessment team (division of John Wiley & Sons) creates products and services to help people become more effective in their workplace and achieve career success. Our products include Everything DiSC, The 5 Behaviors of a Cohesive Team, PXT and The Leadership Challenge, and we go to market through an Authorized Partner network of trainers, coaches, and consultants who use our branded solutions to bring value to their trusted advisor relationships within organizations.

We are looking for a Data Analyst who loves data and the challenges of pursuing data clarity and developing new analyses and reporting capabilities. The successful candidate will turn data into information, and information into insight that informs business choices by using data visualization that reflect key business metrics. The candidate is adept at synthesizing large amounts of structured and unstructured data into a simple user-friendly dashboard. Should be comfortable conducting full lifecycle analysis, include requirements, activities and design. The Data Analyst will also monitor performance and quality control plans to find opportunities for improvements and reporting.

How you will make an impact:

  • Work with content, business, financial teams and Wiley systems development teams to design, develop and install key performance indicators dashboards and other customized reports to give global visibility to work efforts.
  • Interpret data, analyses results using statistical techniques and offer ongoing reporting.
  • Filter and “clean” data by reviewing reports and data from multiple sources, and performance indicators to locate and correct code problems.
  • Enable more meaningful reporting for management and operational use that is aligned with company objects and easily updated to reflect evolving business needs.
  • Enable accurate, consistent and prompt measurement of performance against targets allowing point of use drill-down for identification of problem areas requiring remediation.
  • Locate and define new process improvement opportunities.
  • Get data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain data source integrity.
  • Develop reporting to enable management to manage internal and external resources.
  • Enable accuracy in reporting and visibility into opportunities for improvement to standardize critical tasks and drive efficiencies.

  • Proven track record of growing key business metrics through data-led initiatives.
  • Understand how to set data up to identify and drive impact that is great for our customers and good for business
  • BA/BS, preferably in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management or Statistics
  • Practical working experience as a data analyst or business data analyst. Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, disseminate and synthesize significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy. Comfortable working with multiple sources of data and confidence in resolving conflicting data
  • Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques.
  • Adept at queries, report writing and presenting findings.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages (Power BI etc), databases (SQL etc).
  • Ability to work effectively independently with minimal direction.
  • Collaborative work style.
  • Ability to influence and achieve results without authority.

This range represents Wiley’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the base pay for this role at the time of posting. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall within the range, however the ultimate salary offered for this role may be higher or lower and will be set based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, skills, and competencies

Base salary

$74,300/yr - $106,567/yr
