Job Description & Responsibilities
Slate is looking for a Data Analyst to join our Research and Data team. We are looking for a candidate with experience in data analysis and engineering to help us build and maintain data infrastructure, create analytics products, and drive Slate forward in the media industry. This role provides opportunities to work with various stakeholder teams within Slate, furthering the organization’s data democratization. The ideal candidate has technical expertise, critical thinking skills, and a love of creative problem-solving.
This role is based in our Brooklyn, New York, office.
Responsibilities
- Automating processes in our data pipeline, maintaining and enhancing our existing ETL pipeline, and finding ways to improve Slate’s data infrastructure
- Collaborating with the rest of the Research and Data team to work on ad hoc reports, longitudinal studies, and data models
- Analyzing trends in membership, ad performance, and content performance
- Building revenue projections across Slate’s direct, programmatic, display, and podcast business
- Designing, building, and maintaining data products that regularly present KPIs to senior leadership
- Encouraging data democratization by making reports and metrics approachable for stakeholder teams at Slate
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in a data- or technology-oriented role
- Advanced proficiency with coding in Python and querying APIs
- Intermediate or better proficiency with the following: 1)Database systems and querying in SQL 2)Cloud computing services such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP) 3)Command line tools and testing in a local environment
- Demonstrated experience with combining, standardizing, and analyzing large data sets, and communicating insights to nonexperts
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience performing A/B tests and analyzing the results
- Expertise in developing dashboards with data visualization tools such as Looker or Tableau
- Experience with data governance: personal data privacy, data retention, and security best practices
Bonus Points
- Experience at another publisher or media company
- Experience in predictive modeling
- Experience with first-party data collection and best practices around data governance, privacy, and security
