Department Overview
WestEd’s Information Technology Department is seeking a mission-driven Data Analyst II to work within our cloud environment utilizing Tableau products for output of complex data visualizations as well as other business intelligence and data analytics solutions. Our team has been rebuilt to focus on providing technology solutions to serve our clients and internal staff. Our culture values communication, collaboration, accountability, and strong customer service skills. WestEd’s Information Technology Department supports and deploys hardware, software, SaaS Solutions, custom applications, and network infrastructure for the agency. The successful candidate will be a critical member of our new Data Operations Team.

We process large volumes of data every day and transform those data into useful information that powers decisions for our researchers, scientists, and other professionals. Our collective work has a significant impact on the education and scientific communities we serve. We need to get it right, and we strive to extract increasing value from the data we manage.
Position Overview
The Data Analyst II provides professional-level data analysis for Information Technology projects; and will primarily support the development of dashboards and tools that display intersegmental data, including the documentation and supporting resources needed for developers and client deliverables. The Data Analyst II supports long- and short-term engagements with practitioners that advance collective impact, strategic planning, and collaborative problem-solving that result in meaningful changes to programs and policies.

Responsibilities
The Data Analyst II assists in the design and implementation of complex cloud-based data visualizations, data analytics infrastructure, and business intelligence dashboards with a primary focus on Tableau product utilization. This position requires a strong background in Tableau dashboard creation/curation, performance optimization, Structured Query Language (SQL), and Tableau server management interfaces. The successful candidate will analyze existing database and data architectures along with new data processing requirements to assist in the design of comprehensive solutions that meet contractual and business requirements.
Specific Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To
- Analyze the existing data visualization environment and propose modern solutions that meet functional and non-functional requirements.
- Design and develop Tableau dashboards, reports, and visualizations based on business requirements and best practices
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their data visualization needs and translate requirements into Tableau solutions
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to Tableau solutions
- Optimize Tableau performance by analyzing and tuning dashboards and data sources
- Stay current with Tableau features and functionality to ensure we are using the most current tools available.
- Create and maintain technical documentation related to Tableau solutions and platform governance
- Participate in peer reviews of development/coding and provide feedback to other visualization developers
- Contribute to the development of best practices, standards, and guidelines for WestEd’s Tableau environment
- Maintain the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of databases and related systems.
- Enforce policy compliance across systems and projects through regular monitoring and testing
- Collaborate and coordinate with multiple divisions, departments, stakeholders, partners, and external vendors
- Adhere to Agency Information Technology policies
- Travel Required: Less than 5% to WestEd headquarters or satellite offices
Requirements
Qualifications
- Located in the United States with availability to work 8 hours per day every weekday. Work schedule can be flexible but must include the Department’s core hours of Monday - Friday 9am - 2pm PT regardless of time zone.
- At least five (5+) years of experience functioning as a Tableau Data Analyst.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent additional experience in data analysis may substitute for this education requirement.
- Willingness to participate in total time accounting, including recording and reporting of actual time spent across multiple concurrent projects in fifteen-minute increments.
- Demonstrated professional maturity and politically adroit; combined with tact, diplomacy, common sense, sound judgment, and discretion.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle changing priorities and multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in the English language. Ability to communicate effectively with clients and develop a clear understanding of their business needs.
- Reliability, a professional attitude, and a willingness to do what is required in a cooperative work setting. Must be a self-starter, independent thinker, action-oriented, and self-motivated.
Preferences

- Holds an active Tableau Data Analyst, Tableau Server Associate, or similar certification credential.
- Recent experience administering and/or developing data products using Snowflake and/or Data Bricks.
- Recent experience with statistical or business intelligence tools, including Cognos, Tableau, and/or Costpoint.
- Recent experience operating within an Agile Scrum, Lean Kanban, and/or Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) systems development life cycle.
- Recent experience with Google G-Suite, Microsoft Office 365, GitHub, TeamDynamix, Smartsheet, Airtable, Box, Jira, Confluence, and/or Zoom.
- Desire to learn new technologies and keep current with technological trends.
- Note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Successful candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
What we offer
The full salary range for this position, WestEd level G, is $85,440 to $128,200 but WestEd does not typically hire at or near the top of the salary range. The typical hiring range for this role is $85,440 - $106,800. The actual offer takes into account multiple factors including but not limited to education; experience; internal equity, and other organizational needs.
