Data Analyst job description

We have the opportunity for a Data Analyst to join the firm’s Practice Analytics team to provide support for our employment litigation group. Data Analysts are responsible for providing internal and client facing analytic and data visualization solutions. This position will perform a number of duties, including developing processes and techniques to extract data from a variety sources, determining how best to analyze the data, and generating descriptive and statistical analysis on the data, including regression and classification analyses.

Essential Functions

  • Perform analysis related to a number of employment-specific project types, including wage & hour, pay equity, reduction-in-force, employment discrimination, and other litigation-related exposure or damages models
  • Locate the necessary data sources, extract and convert raw, sometimes discordant data into structured files ready for analysis, verify data integrity, run preliminary descriptive analyses, and finalize documents and data for production
  • Manipulate, clean, analyze, and refine data using a variety of tools including R, Python, Excel, and other software tools
  • Create dashboards and other data visualizations in Power BI to help drive insights and tell the story of the analysis
  • Develop and document processes and techniques used to extract, clean, and analyze data
  • Explain your work to others with varying degrees of technical experience
  • Daily interaction with attorneys, clients and users, including presenting findings and summaries of analyses, as well as collaborating to create data-driven solutions to improve their workflows or processes
  • Identify opportunities to leverage internal and external data sources or processes to create value for clients or the Firm – including marketing, pricing efficiencies, talent and retention
  • An interest in workforce/people analytics and leveraging data to assist clients with creating more efficient, productive workforces through predictive analytics
  • Manage your projects and work with minimal direction to ensure that deadlines are met and relevant stakeholders are kept in the loop
  • Assist other team members as needed to ensure that exceptional work product is delivered consistently and in a timely fashion
  • Locate and define new process improvement opportunities
Data Analyst job requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or other quantitative field or a Bachelor’s degree in another field and equivalent work experience in a quantitative capacity – Master’s degree preferred
  • At least 2 years’ experience as a data analyst or business data analyst providing support for HRIS-related data. Previous experience analyzing data in support of employment litigation, including for class action, discrimination, wage and hour, pay equity, reduction-in-force, and PAGA claims is preferred
  • Experience using statistical packages for analyzing large datasets (e.g. R, Python, SAS, STATA, SPSS, etc.)
  • Experience with R or an interest in learning
  • Experience with Python or an interest in learning
  • Experience with Power BI or other data visualization platform or an interest in learning
  • Experience with VBA or an interest in learning
  • Expert-level Excel skills and familiarity with MS Office suite
  • Experience with SQL and/or comfortable querying databases
  • Comfortable interacting with attorneys and clients and taking on prominent role related to data, including presenting the results of your analysis to clients and stakeholders
  • Ability to explain complicated analyses and processes in terms that are understandable to non-experts both orally and in writing
  • Self-starter capable of working remotely and with little supervision and able to work through and resolve technical issues on their own
  • Team player, customer service focused, and adept at multi-tasking and prioritization
  • Familiarity with Agile project management
  • Initiative and problem-solving abilities with a focus on building it better and continuous improvement
  • Keen interest in technology and innovation, and ability to quickly learn new platforms

In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the expected salary range for this Colorado position is between $80,000 and $98,000. In accordance with New York City’s Wage Transparency Law, the expected salary range for this New York City position is between $85,000 and $100,000. In accordance with California’s amended labor code as stated in Senate Bill 1162, the expected salary range for this California position is between $79,000 and $98,000. In accordance with the Washington Equal Pay and Opportunities act, the expected salary range for this Washington position is between $87,000 and $101,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors as permitted by law. This position qualifies for the benefits below.
