Lead Data Analyst job description

The Lead Analyst is responsible for overseeing the execution, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of the Company’s Distribution Management System. Individual will lead multi-disciplinary teams responsible for all phases of implementation including technology review and selection; defining business requirements, developing data models, performing data analysis, writing SQL queries, designing, and coding stored procedures to support Grid Modernization data integrations. Individual will also support efforts to research and develop plans for additional modernization opportunities including investigation and assessment of new tools and technologies relevant to the modernization of the electric distribution system. This is a hybrid role. The first three months are full time in the office.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee the design and develop database objects, stored procedures, views, functions, tables, triggers and SSIS packages based off product development requirements; Ensure stability, reliability, and performance of database objects.
  • Design, develop, and maintain reports based on user requirements.
  • Perform regular database management duties including backups and audits to ensure that SQL databases remain assessable, secure, stable and within performance parameters.
  • Independently analyze, solve and correct database related issues in real time while providing efficient resolutions
  • Respond to feedback from users regarding performance and work with developers to improve the performance of queries and indexes.
  • Provide support for the deployment of database scripts in development, test, pre-production and production environments.
  • Develop ETL processes for data warehousing, data integration, and data analytics
  • Design and develop enterprise wide ETL solutions for BI reporting
  • Review and analyze data from multiple internal and external sources
  • Build data pipelines to integrate disparate data sources in a central data warehouse to support business applications and analytics
  • Reverse-engineer and troubleshoot existing Batch implementations
  • Work collaboratively across the organization to gain a thorough knowledge of the Company’s strengths, weaknesses and opportunities in order to support cross-functional efforts to develop and refine grid modernization strategic plans.
  • Support internal and external tracking and reporting requirements associated with grid modernization programs, including reporting of metrics related to the achievement of project benefits.
  • Collaborate with multiple groups to access and aggregate data streams from multiple sources
  • Identify and help to remediate root causes of data issues/anomalies that may be encountered
  • Develop and implement appropriate data processing methodologies to meet business objectives and support regulatory reporting requirements
  • Translates results of statistical analysis and predictive analytics into actionable insights
  • Collaborate with engineers to validate algorithms and results using power system modeling tools and real-time data
  • Understands limitations of algorithms and how they can be modified to achieve similar results at a larger scale
  • Will be required to support Emergency Restoration efforts throughout the Eversource service territory.
Lead Data Analyst job requirements

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Thorough understanding of programming languages (SQL, VB.NET, VBA, PHP, JavaScript, XML, HTML,C++ ,Python), database programing (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, Access, SQLite) and reporting & ETL (SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, Business Objects, Oracle Reports, SQLoader)
  • Familiarity with Grid Modernization technologies and electric distribution operational systems such as DMS, OMS, SCADA, and distribution automation.
  • Demonstrated competency and proficiency in oral and written communications.

Education: Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science or Engineering (MS in Computer Science or equivalent preferred)

Experience: Minimum of eight (8) years with strong database development, application development, business analytics, automation, database administration, and ETL experience. within the electrical utility industry. Supervisory experience preferred.
