The North Carolina Department of Revenue is seeking a self-starter Data Analyst to support our Business Intelligence initiatives.
The Data Analyst will collect, cleanse, analyze, and interpret data from numerous sources to identify tax compliance issues for multiple tax schedules. The position serves as a Project Lead, Subject Matter Expert, and/or Test Lead on business intelligence and analytics projects and is responsible for defining business rules, identifying data source requirements, leading and/or conducting user acceptance testing, providing training to end-users, and providing production support to end-users.
Additionally, the position works closely with the Tax Enforcement and Compliance divisions and third-party vendors to provide data for multiple compliance initiatives, track and analyze results, and determine future changes. The position coordinates and oversees the electronic filing of some information returns and leads a small group of users from various service centers to brainstorm new compliance initiatives, identify training or data gaps, and determine changes needed to existing compliance initiatives to increase efficiency and generate revenue.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities / Competencies
- Knowledge of accounting principles and auditing techniques with the ability to apply these techniques while analyzing data and identifying anomalies.
- Knowledge of the revenue laws of North Carolina, the North Carolina administrative code, the Department’s technical bulletins, technical advice memorandums and directives, departmental policies and procedures, and the Internal Revenue Code.
- Demonstrated ability to collect and collate data from disparate sources, analyze the data, and determine anomalies, trends, and other insights.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong decision-making skills. Ability to create clear and coherent written materials.
- Ability to exercise judgement and discretion in establishing, applying, and interpreting policies and procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with agency personnel, officials, taxpayer representatives, and the general public.
MANAGEMENT PREFERENCE: 2+ years auditing experience
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Computer Science or any related field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in business consultation, process improvement, or requirement gathering in an information technology environment, or Associate degree in business administration, computer science or any related field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of related experience in an information technology environment; or High School or GED in business administration, computer science or any related field from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of related experience in an information technology environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
What we offer
Salary Range: $68,805.00 - $81,705.00
