Data Analyst job description

This role is Remote - West Coast

As a Data and Informatics Analyst, you will be focused on collecting, analyzing, and interpreting large datasets to provide valuable insights and support decision-making processes. You will work closely with various teams, including clinical, actuarial, underwriting, claims, strategy, account management and sales to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improving operational efficiency, risk management, and client satisfaction.

This role will report to local regional leadership (Managing Partner, EB Practice Leader, etc.), but will receive guidance from and work closely with the National Practice team.

Responsibilities:

Data Collection and Management:

  • Gather and compile relevant data from internal and external sources, such as claims databases, member enrollment records, and healthcare provider information.
  • Ensure data integrity and accuracy by performing data validation, cleansing, and transformation processes.
  • Develop and maintain databases, data systems, and data models to facilitate efficient data analysis.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Utilize statistical analysis techniques, data mining, and data visualization tools to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in health insurance data.
  • Generate monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad hoc reports for clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Identify and address data integrity issues through to resolution.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements, such as HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), by implementing appropriate data privacy and security measures.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing accurate and comprehensive data reports and documentation.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work in data analytics or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in data analysis, preferably within the health insurance or healthcare industry.
  • Proficiency in data manipulation and analysis using Tableau. Tableau certification is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
  • Ability to build presentations utilizing data visualization tools.
  • Knowledge of health insurance concepts, including claims processing, risk management, and provider reimbursement methodologies.
  • Understanding of healthcare data standards, coding systems (e.g., ICD-10, CPT), and regulatory frameworks (e.g., ACA, CMS guidelines).
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated administrative computing skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point).
  • Experience utilizing data aggregation systems (Deerwalk, Springbuk, Self-Funded Reporting, NavMD, etc.) is preferred.
