Job Description & Responsibilities
Hendall is currently seeking a Data Analyst with strong math and analysis skills, and experience processing and analyzing complex data to join a project team supporting the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Please note that this is an on-site, hybrid role working 3 days a week in our Rockville, MD office.
DUTIES
The Data Analyst will be collaborative and demonstrate focus and attention to detail. The Data Analyst receives, analyzes, and processes complex, large datasets submitted from multiple sources. Specifically:
- Receive data in electronic formats and clean and prepare for input and processing
- Develop the structure, specifications, and code for new data elements
- Analyze data files and produce error-free monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
- Create, document, and implement quality control procedures that eliminate data errors
- Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly status reports documenting the status of data submissions
- Prepare codes in SAS to conduct quality checks of data analyses
- Generate tabulations from survey data files
- Conduct routine ad hoc data runs and prepare write-ups in response to data queries
- Revise processing operations to incorporate new data elements and data quality control and timeliness procedures related to new elements
- Generate analytic data file documentation in ASCII and SAS formats with SAS input statements and programming specifications
- Produce restricted-use and public-use data files and documentation in ASCII and SAS formats with SAS input statements
- Create data visualizations including dashboards in Tableau
- Utilize statistical and machine learning techniques to solve complex problems
- Continuously improve processes and workflows to increase efficiency and accuracy
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in math, statistics, data science, computer science, or a related field
- 5 years of professional experience in receiving, analyzing, processing large datasets
- Experience working with longitudinal data
- Knowledge and application of cross sectional and longitudinal statistical approaches, including regression, structural equations modelling, multivariate ANOVA, and trend analyses
- 5 years of experience using SAS (Base SAS, SAS/STAT, SAS/GRAPH, SAS/ACCESS, Macro facility, ODS, DDE)
- 5 years of experience with creating and maintaining relational databases using SQL
- Advanced Excel skills (task automation; dynamic reports with PivotTables; building formulae; cell formatting; building charts and graphs; large data management with IF, SUM, INDEX, MATCH, VLOOKUP functions)
- Familiarity with one or more programs (SPSS, Stata, Python, and R)
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with analysis of substance use and mental health data
- At least 2 years of experience designing and developing machine learning algorithms, deep learning applications, and natural language processing
- Experience working with claims data or other health information data
- Knowledge of or familiarity with data deidentification procedures and best practices for protecting patient health information
- Advanced SAS Programming Certification
- At least 3 years of experience with Tableau and SSRS
