Senior Data Analyst, IT Audit job description

The Senior Data Analyst is a key member of the Internal Audit and Advisory Services (IA&AS) team at Boston University. This client-facing position reports to the Data Analytics Manager and is responsible for the design and execution of data analytics opportunities and solutions that help create efficiencies, support data driven audit processes and enhance audit processes through automation. including the departments continuous auditing and monitoring programs, as well as other audit and advisory projects. The ideal candidate has a detail-oriented, analytical mind that enjoys problem solving and creating efficiencies, while possessing strong project management and communication skills. He/she/they should be an independent, proactive, self-starter with a strong work ethic, a high degree of motivation, and the ability to contribute to a positive team attitude. This role will provide exposure to a variety of areas in a University setting, including administration, research, academics, operations, and IT. Previous experience working with SAP, ACL, and PowerBI, is a plus but not necessary.

Major duties of this position include:

  • Collaborates internally and with other departments throughout the University to identify, design, and execute data analytics that address risk and process improvement opportunities
  • Supports data driven audit processes and enhances audit processes through automation
  • Conducts data extraction and analysis utilizing the department's ACL software and PowerBI
  • Assists with the design and maintenance of continuous auditing and continuous monitoring scripts and reports
  • Plans and implements departmental process improvement opportunities using technology, data analytics, and best practices
  • Assists in quality review and testing of analytic tests and reports before deployment to IA&AS team and others
  • Participates in special audit projects and investigations and contributes to reports of audit findings and in preparing recommendations for senior leadership

Required Skills:

  • Bachelors degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field
  • 5-8 years of experience in in consulting, auditing, business process improvement, or similar role
  • Strong project management skills (creates project plans, timelines, and breakdown of tasks)
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects concurrently and develop audit programs and procedures without established guidance
  • Ability to work optimally and collaboratively in a small, collegial, cross-functional team environment
  • Strong analytical/quantitative skills
  • Advanced experience in analyzing data and project management across a broad range of topics and scope of responsibility Advanced oral and written communication skills, with the proven ability to present and explain complex information and suggest process improvements to audiences with varying levels of technical understanding
  • Develop protocols, technical documentation, and training materials

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with ACL, PowerBI, SAP, and SQL and/or Python programming languages
