Senior Data Analyst job description

Scope: The Senior Data Analyst will support all data analysis and reporting work associated with our insurance/reinsurance systems. This includes analysis, data preparation for reporting, reference tables, Power BI reports leveraging data from our Enterprise Data Warehouse, RDM (Reference Data Management), MDM (Master Data Management), data lakes, and data marts. The Senior Data Analyst will work closely with business functions, operations, and application leads to gather and document requirements, deliver innovative solutions, and ensure smooth production operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the AVP, Enterprise Data Lead in the effective and timely development of new and enhanced reporting and analytics capabilities.
  • Perform detailed analysis of source and target systems to write approaches, requirements, and mapping specifications for the technical team to develop.
  • Test solutions alongside QA and user groups to ensure quality and user acceptance.
  • Gather requirements from business users and develop data specifications for new report development or report enhancements, and bug/issues.
  • Engage with various levels of business users to document requirements, review specifications, obtain approval, support UAT, and post-production roll-out.
  • Learn new databases and systems to produce specifications needed for financial and analytical reporting requirements.
  • Provide production support and guidance of existing reports.
  • Resolve and escalate issues, prioritizing and tracking them.
  • Collaborate with developers to ensure specifications are understood and followed.
  • Competent with agile methodology processes and engagement in weekly stand-up, backlog grooming, and planning sessions.
Senior Data Analyst job requirements

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience with Power BI
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable and profitable opportunities.
  • Strong SQL skills to query SQL databases (Snowflake).
  • Strong experience in client-facing roles with expert skills in requirements gathering, using a variety of methods to uncover clients' needs.
  • Ability to communicate technically complex IT concepts to business clients.
  • Strong business acumen and technical solutions expertise.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in SDLC, implementing new reports and major enhancements, including underwriting, financial, statistical, and claims reporting.
  • Good understanding of P&C Insurance and related business processes.
  • Understanding of software development techniques, processes, methods, and best practices. Proficiency in various programming languages.
  • Exposure to working with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data methods.
  • Good understanding of Agile development methods and their application to company technology needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, and consultative skills for effective collaboration with senior management and customers.
  • Design test cases and testing scenarios working with QA engineers.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree and 5 or more years of related experience in data analytics and/or data platforms.

What we offer at Vantage Risk

The base salary expectation for this role is between $100,000 and $135,000. Actual base salary for the selected candidate may be higher commensurate with candidate experience and expectations.
