Data Analyst job description

Hello, World! CSTA is a non-profit membership organization that supports and promotes the teaching of computer science, providing opportunities for K–12 teachers and their students to better understand computer science and to more successfully prepare themselves to teach and learn. We are fully remote with engaged teammates spread from California to Massachusetts and we blend our collective experience gained from our past roles in non-profits, K-12 schools, higher education, and hospitality to create high-quality teaching and learning experiences for teachers worldwide.

Who We Are Looking For: A Collaborative, Critical Thinker with a Deep Passion for Data

CSTA is looking for our first Data Analyst to build and connect systems and structures for, collect, and analyze data across the organization to support leadership and team members in making sound decisions. As our ideal candidate for this role, you are a technically sound analyst with a strong head for data and statistics, a deep interest in problem-solving, and exceptional attention to detail. You are methodical, accurate in your work, detailed in your documentation, and an excellent researcher. You are highly collaborative, with the ability to understand needs from key stakeholders and turn them into actionable reports and recommendations. You are excited about leveraging these skills to support K-12 computer science educators and equity in education!

How You’ll Contribute: Essential Duties and Responsibilities

As Data Analyst at CSTA, you will lead our organization in turning data into information, information into insights, and insights into smart business decisions. You will take many disconnected systems, and cohesively connect them together to deliver reports that provide insight on things like member behavior, to help shape strategic direction. We have exciting changes planned, like migrating to a new Association Management System (AMS); you will play a critical role in the success of these projects.

In your day-to-day, you will:

  • Own Data Management and Reporting. You will build and maintain systems in collaboration with the membership team; build and maintain best processes and reporting; report on current and future grants; support annual goals tracking, reporting, and visualization for the leadership team and board of directors; cohesively build and connect our data systems and processes across the organization.
  • Support our members and community through maintaining monthly membership metrics and member database; analyzing quarterly membership demographic data, partner data, virtual community and affinity group engagement reporting, and creating visualizations to share with the team; collaborating with our membership engagement manager to identify trends that inform programming; and driving chapter reporting and dashboards.
  • Support Events and Professional Learning through ownership of post-event survey reporting processes for CSTA key events, and reporting CSTA’s key event metrics to ensure we maintain a high level of attendee satisfaction and experience.
  • Ensure success of the Professional Development Passport project; create and maintain system for members and nonmembers to self report on PD, working with the National Science Foundation (NSF) and other key grant stakeholders; providing reporting to PD providers and grant stakeholders.
  • Perform research, and other duties as assigned.
